Menopause made me rethink sleep and sunrise!

One of my favourite ways to start the day is waking up just before sunrise, during that early Kapha time (around 6am). The light is gentle, the world is quiet, and the energy is slow and steady — perfect for grounding all my airy Vata energy!!

For someone like me, with a lot of Vata going on (hello racing mind and jumpy nervous system!), rising during Kapha time helps me feel calm, centred, and more stable as I step into the day. If I sleep past 7am and drift into that heavier Kapha energy, I usually feel foggy and sluggish — like I’ve missed the boat a bit, and brain fog is definitely worse!!

But let’s also keep it real — it doesn’t always happen that way. I’m also menopausal, and my body is going through all sorts of changes. Some mornings I wake up early, ready to flow, and other mornings I genuinely need the extra rest, so I stay snuggled up in bed, with a coffee (yes, I still drink coffee!) and take things a little slower!!

Our hormonal rhythms still ebb and flow, even without a cycle, and it’s so important to honour what the body is asking for.

Still, when I do rise with the sun, everything just feels a little more aligned. My energy stays steadier throughout the day, and my thoughts feel less scattered.
